On Saturday, October 24th, 2009 I will be taking a break from recording (see pics here) to play a show at 49 West Cafe in Annapolis, MD with my new side project The Creek Bank Band!
Born out of a love for soulful and southern flavored jazz music sung by the likes of Ray Charles and Mose Allison, The Creek Bank Band is a group of musicians playing their favorite tunes from the bluesy-jazzy song book. Sarah Fridrich on piano and vocals, Gary Prince on jazz guitar, Sarah Carlisle on upright bass.
(Perhaps I'll play an indi-pop song or two from my upcoming album - I can't imagine NOT getting to pound out some emotion on that baby grand in the backroom at 49 West!) ... Hope to see you there! ~sarah

49 West Show to debut The Creek Bank Band
Since I can't really imagine playing a show of all the songs I'm working on for the new album, and I'd been meaning to start this jazzy-bluesy cover band for a year now, the 49 West Show will be a debut of sorts: "Creek Bank" is a group I've started with bassist Sarah Carlisle. The band is inspired by bluesy-jazz artists like the great son-of-a-sharecropper himself - Mose Allison. "Creek Bank" is one of my favorite Mose albums. If you don't know about this legendary, still-alive-and-on-tour, jazz pianist/vocalist/trumpeter/songwriter, here's an interview with him from 1999: Mose Allison interview
