Here's a snapshot and a nice review by blogger "Prince of Petworth" of a show I got to participate in at BloomBars in the Petworth/Columbia Heights Neighborhood of D.C. this past August.
2 poems
POEM 1: i was just singing
but all they do is small
all they do is droop their heads
ask me for a drink
offer me their insides
but I did not invite them to my yard
sprinkle themselves along my steps
I was just singing
that I do for me
I was glowing with the sun
in quite an ordinary way
like puddles do in potholes
like shovels at the hardware store
like metal on a cadillac
like curtains facing west
what they see is innocent
what they see is in no cent
what they see or feel is
of sweet acceptance
POEM 2:
for something like family
I'm sad that the one I really liked
would ask me back that night
my sister was a voice from love
and what she said was right
so, don't cry those tears as if
a chance was lost
for God or Fate has
given something necessary
and taken what is not
a man in love
a man who knows
without a bit of doubt
If there ever was a witch
I'd ask her for a favor
I'll write the spell
you cast it, for I am superstitious
"And, what for? what for?" she'd ask,
curious but not ignorant
for something like family
for something like mating
for something like a human
for something earthy, like humis
"Oh, but not for love and youth
and spiritual bliss?"
but all they do is small
all they do is droop their heads
ask me for a drink
offer me their insides
but I did not invite them to my yard
sprinkle themselves along my steps
I was just singing
that I do for me
I was glowing with the sun

Music Class for Dancers
I'm offering this workshop that I've been thinking about for the last year. I'm delighted to connect my work as a music teacher with my passion as a dancer. Its a little daunting - the logistics of organizing a workshop - but I'm chugging forward. I've posted a text file with some details below. Send me an email at sf.music.group@gmail.com if you want to register!

Java Mamma's - Tomorrow Aug 28th!

BLUE in Portland, Maine - August 22nd
It couldn't have been a more perfect night in Vacationland. What other city in America can you park your car in a designated bus stop, unload gear, play a 2 hour gig, re-load gear and never get a ticket? The Portland crowd seemed subdued, but attentive, and I was grateful so many friends of friends showed up! Liz tolerated being crammed behind me with her bass and Mike Arciero (electric guitar) and Matt Wunsch (drum set) did a great job backing me up on show of original songs, which they had heard only once! I'm certain that there are a ton of great pics from this show ... just waiting on ya'll to send them! You know who you are!

Last Minute Show - D.C. Saturday AUG 2, 2008
I'm opening up for the Makepeace Brothers @ 9pm. $5 donation to help the new community art space & the touring band's gas bill. ________DETAILS:
“From bluegrass to jazz to Brazilian, African, and Celtic, their sounds are as worldly as their messages.” Whether playing for thousands of Jason Mraz’ fans while opening for the platinum selling artist during this spring’s “Music Magic and Make Peace” Tour or performing an intimate party in Toronto, Canada, this acoustic trio rocks the house.
www.myspace.com/makepeacebrothers
BloomBars: Don’t be surprised if you haven’t caught word. BloomBars is Columbia Heights’ new decidedly underground, spontaneous and inspirational space for local and global art, music and film you more than likely haven’t seen or heard. It’s raw. It’s organic, and slowly rising from a seed—offering an opportunity for guests to say, “I watched it grow when it looked like it was going to be a weed.” And did we mention that it’s free? Well, it’d be nice if you threw in a $5 donation to keep the lights on.
Sneak a peak: www.bloombars.com (videos are up).
Suggested Donation: $5 supports the musicians and the performance space
Special guests:
- Ramia Badris, an incredible artist from Iraq (To give her all the attention she deserves, we will open the doors at 7:30pm with music following) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ramia-Badris-Fine-Art/8144231601
- Howard University's inspirational vocalist Zimm
- Singer songwriter Sara Fridrich

Success, Community, and Imperfection
More and more, I am learning that, with friends around, I don't have to be "perfect" to be successful...
This past Wednesday night, people from my tango, alumni, spiritual, music, and friends communities came out for the Busboys show and filled the room with great energy and hopeful ears. It was the best show I've had to date! I couldn't have done it without all of these people.
---------THANK YOU!!--------------

Busboys & Poets SHOW - This WED 5/21
My first legit show in D.C. is coming up THIS week! I'm very excited to share the night with jazz piano wonder-girl Amy Bormet (www.amykbormet.com). She and I will do a few collaborations during the night, but, mostly, offer to you our best original songs and arrangements in two unique sets. Joining me in the first hour is my Roots/Americana drummer dad Tom Fridrich of The Remnants, my yogi-gorgeous bass player soul-sister Sarah Carlisle, and multi-talented, California-dreamin' lead guitarist Dave Cipriani of Baltimore's popular Satabdi Express.
I hope you can make it!

Show - Wed, May 21 @ Busboys&Poets
I can't wait, I can't wait! ... So, I met with Amy Bormet yesterday at her pad in the Capital Hill neighborhood. After gleefully swapping our favorite cds and tunes (think two eclectic, goofy musicians get together and cheer for every dissonant moment in a pop song written by the likes of mandolin players and cellists with distortion pedals!), we spent some time working out a few songs for our 'surprise' collaboration on Wednesday at Busboys! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on one's palette), the Busboys & Poets policy on amplified giddiness is limited and neither of us plays the mandolin or cello, so you'll have to do with our sexy-sweet voices and some burning licks from the grand piano. Original push-the-envelope pop (and jazz) songs are guaranteed!

SF duo plays Dtwn Silver Spring 4/23/08
Sarah Fridrich Duo, with Special Guests: The Able Birds
Wednesday, April 23rd
9pm-midnight

Austin Grill
919 Ellsworth Drive
Silver Spring, MD 20901
Thats right! Downtown Silver Spring hosts live music - Austin Grill is the place! A restaurant themed after a town of songwriter fame - Austin, TX - its not the SXSW music conference, but there's still great eats (fresh chips and homemade salsa served at every table), margaritas, and, of course, great *original* live music. The focus will be on good songs and creative instrumentation (check out The Able Birds' opening set - they will put us to shame as they prove that no band is cool who doesn't switch instruments mid-set. Yes! The violin player also plays drums!!)

"roses" and "soul" in April Song Contest, be a judge
I've entered my songs "Soul of The Earth" and "Roses on the Ocean" into an online music contest for the month of April.
Check it out:
Fans can sign-up to judge at OurStage.
About Voting
Though you CAN'T go vote a million times for me (a good thing), you CAN judge in a category or channel. I entered my music in the "singer-songwriter" category.
Judging Interface
The judging processes is a blind/random comparing module. 2 different songs pop up and you click on the one you like better, then 2 more songs pop up randomly. You can keep going for as long as your ears can take it.
So far, I've found no strings attached. It claims to be a grassroots thingy.
